The Royal Palace construction project in Maseru, initiated in 2011 with an expected 18-month timeline, remains unfinished over 15 years later with costs escalating from M136.7 million to M461 million. The government has allocated an additional M50 million to resume construction, but an Auditor-General's audit uncovered serious financial irregularities including M74 million in overpayments and unauthorised payments.
