Prime Minister Sam Matekane has been elected as the incoming chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, ending a deadlock between Lesotho and Angola that had delayed the appointment since August 2026. The appointment marks a significant achievement for Lesotho, which was removed from SADC's agenda in August 2025 after more than a decade of political and security difficulties.
