LEC recovers over M3.7 million from electricity fraud scheme
The Lesotho Electricity Company has secured commitments from two companies to repay over M3.7 million fraudulently obtained through an electricity scheme allegedly operating since 2015 and masterminded by former LEC Sales Agent Officer Tlotliso Bereng. The repayments represent a fraction of an alleged M81.7 million fraud scheme, with investigations continuing and authorities encouraging other implicated parties to come forward voluntarily.
