From 200 cabbages to 21,000 layers: Matete’s farming empire

Share

Dr Mampiti Matete, a former National University of Lesotho lecturer, has built Matpit Farm into a diversified agricultural enterprise with 21,000 laying hens, dairy cows, an apple orchard and vegetable operations, employing around 50 workers. She recently won the AAMECC Network Honours Award in Nairobi for excellence in agricultural business and is working to change perceptions of farming in Lesotho from a path to poverty into a profitable commercial venture.
