CBL grilled over “unsanctioned” payments

The Public Accounts Committee grilled the Central Bank of Lesotho over M524 million in government debt payments processed outside the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS), with CBL Governor Dr Maluke Letete initially denying such payments occurred before officials confirmed they had taken place. The committee raised concerns that the unsanctioned payments may have contributed to repeated adverse audit opinions and questioned the legal authority for such transactions.
